The food in Maryland is decent. For the sake of my reader, I'm going to try and avoid writing about crabs in this post. Crabs have been the subject of my blog for the past few posts. It is becoming far too tiring to think up different ways to come up with different ways to describe the taste and texture of our favorite blue crustacean.

Food in New Jersey is anything but healthy. It certainly tastes good, but people really forget that they need to take care of themselves. The fast paced lifestyle leaves no room for any thought of a healthy meal. Everyone from my hometown typically lived in town but worked in New York City which is about and hour and ten minutes away from us.

This long commute usually leads everyone to eat a quick pork roll egg and cheese on their way to the train station. The pork roll sandwich is famous as a New Jersey staple. Some people refer to pork roll as Taylor ham. This is because John Taylor sold his famous pork roll in Trenton, NJ during the year 1856.

Personally, I cannot stand the taste of pork roll. in all honesty, I don't really like any kind of processed meat. It reminds me of spam, which is something I could never imagine eating. Whenever I go to a bagel shop, I opt for the bacon egg and cheese. I know, I know, bacon is still technically a processed meat. I just find the idea of eating it much easier to stomach.

Lunch is a whole different thing. In New Jersey, nobody has time for lunch. Again, this is due to the fast paced lifestyle. While I was working in Manhattan for my internship, I noticed that no one really even takes time for a lunch break. If they do, it's to stand outside of John's of Bleeker and eat a slice of pizza.

People in Baltimore do not live the same kind of fast paced lifestyle. Though New Jersey and Maryland are actually fairly close in proximity, the attitudes are completely different. People in Maryland take life on with a much slower and relaxed pace.

I have to say, I really do miss the pizza in New Jersey. Since my town has a high concentration of Italian immigrants, we have about ten pizza joints in our downtown. Each one is better than the last. I don't know what makes our pizza in New Jersey so good but I once heard it has something to do with the ph levels of the water. I find it hard to believe that such a trivial detail can make such a huge difference.

There is one pizza place in Hampden that comes close to New Jersey pizza. Pauly Gee's pizza has that same crisp New Jersey flavor. I don't know how they do it, but it really reminds me of the food from home.

One thing I do love about Baltimore is the beer. I've never been to a city that has such a variety of famous beers and breweries. National Bohemian may just be one of the worst beers I've ever tasted. It tastes like someone pulled weeds from their garden and mixed it into dirty carbonated water. Despite this, it still has a certain charm to it that keeps me drinking it. You just can't get anything like Natty Boh in New Jersey.

The breweries are some of the best I've ever been to. Union Craft Brewery has a small menu that boasts some of the best beer I've ever tasted. Though there are breweries in New Jersey, there's nothing like Union Craft. It has a certain charm and ambiance that keeps me coming back.
